Syria Must Let Food Reach Yarmouk Victims

We, the international community, must speak out for the people left starving by Syria’s civil war. All across Syria, civilians are routinely being blocked from receiving the food needed to survive. The world cannot turn its back on these innocent war victims.

One scene of this ongoing tragedy in Syria is Yarmouk and the nearby towns of Yalda, Babila and Beit Saham. They all need life-saving food right away. Years of civil war has ruined food supplies for this area.

Starving Iraqi war victims have food rations cut

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said today that food rations have been reduced for Iraqi war victims. Facing low funding, WFP had no choice but to cut back on the food supplied to the displaced Iraqis.

Ike’s Food for Peace to the Rescue in Syria

A program started by President Dwight Eisenhower is a lifeline today for Syria’s war victims. The U.S. Food for Peace initiative is feeding millions of hungry Syrians affected by the brutal civil war.

Last week, Food for Peace made a $65 million donation through the UN World Food Programme (WFP) for Syria. It came just in the nick of time. WFP was about to cut its food aid to Syrian refugees because of low funds. Even with the donation, WFP still cannot restore full rations, showing how much more needs to be done.

When a UN World Food Programme (WFP) vessel recently docked in Aden, Yemen it came with a life-saving food item for children. The war in Yemen has placed children at risk of deadly malnutrition.

The United States Food for Peace program is taking action to help war victims in Yemen. A UN-chartered ship carrying supplies from Food for Peace arrived last week in the port city of Aden.

Food aid reaches Syrian town after ISIS ousted

The town of Tal Abyad in Syria has just received a delivery of humanitarian aid from the UN World Food Programme (WFP). The town had been cut off from food assistance for eight months because of the ISIS terrorist group, which had taken control.

Syrian refugees are falling deeper into hunger. Children are suffering the most, being forced to work and beg to provide for their family.

Cuts in food aid are leading Syrian refugees to take desperate measures.

This is a terrible situation for Syrian children to be forced to beg and work just to get a meal. But we can do something about it.

The chance for food and peace in Syria

For Syria to survive as a nation, they must have food. The farmers must be able to grow and harvest their crops in peace.

But the four-year civil war has destroyed food production, the very heart of any nation. The fighting has left innocent civilians to starve.

That is why the UN World Food Programme (WFP) is calling for a ceasefire throughout Syria. It’s time to put down the guns and defeat the enemy of hunger.

WFP director Ertharin Cousin joins Taylor Swift on Forbes list

The director of the UN World Food Programme, Ertharin Cousin, joins Taylor Swift on the Forbes annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Women. Cousin came in at #47, followed closely by the music star Swift at #64.
