German donation expands food for education in Yemen

The UN World Food Progamme (WFP) said yesterday that a donation from Germany has allowed expansion of school feeding in Yemen. A food for education project is increasing from 35,000 school girls to 100,000 for this year.

WFP short on resources to feed Central African Republic

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said today it’s only funded at 27 percent of required resources to feed the hungry in Central African Republic. Over one million people are in desperate need of food aid as violence has escalated in the country in recent months.

The UN World Food Programme (WFP), in a report released today, says its “operations in Syria are facing a serious funding shortfall.” According to the report only 4 percent of funding requirements have been received.

UN Security Council demands Syrians get relief from chilling darkness of hunger

The United Nations Security Council yesterday approved a resolution (2139) demanding full access to the starving war victims in Syria. The resolution calls for an end to all violence to allow the country to rebuild.

UN feeds three million for Philippines emergency relief

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said yesterday it has fed 2.9 million people in the Philippines as part of the Typhoon Haiyan emergency operation. WFP has dispatched a total of 30,716 metric tons of food including rice and high-energy biscuits to feed the hungry following the devastating storm last November.

WFP feeding war refugees in Chad, needs urgent funding

The UN World Food Programme (WFP), in a report released today, says it’s feeding 39,000 people in Chad who have fled the neighboring Central African Republic. Violence erupted last December in the Central African Republic causing widespread displacement.

UN approves plan to fight hunger in Yemen

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) said today it’s approved a two-year plan to fight hunger and build self-sufficiency in Yemen. The relief to recovery operation is estimated to cost US $491 million dollars.
